The Cymbopogon family includes around 50 species native to Asia but some were introduced and naturalised since a long time in the intertropical world because of their excellent aromatic, culinary and medicinal virtues. It’s a perennial tropical plant growing in a hot and humid climate. Its leaves are long and thin, with cutting edges, rough and pale green- grayish. It grows in dense clumps. It’s allowed to grow for 3 to 4 years, and then the plant is collected 3 times a year. The separation is made through vegetative propagation process by dividing the clumps. Medicinal properties are known since the days of the Egyptians and the Romans.
